How Do I Deposit At US Online Poker Sites?

us poker deposit optionsYou’ll be surprised how easily you can deposit at the leading US-friendly poker sites as we go into 2015. Sure, things are not as simple as they were before the crackdown of 2011 – but you can definitely get your money in, and your winnings out.

This page answers the question of how do I get deposits onto US poker sites by going through the options in order of easiness.

How Do I Make US Poker Deposits # 1 – Credit Cards

Visa credit cards are still the number one deposit option for US players. These work great at Bovada and Carbon – the top two sites by size. One trick to successful Visa deposits is to make sure that your card is not blocked for international purchases. Some banks do use this block, as a form of security. If you have used your card for foreign purchases or while travelling before, then it should be fine. If you are unsure, then a quick call to your bank can find out – you do not need to tell them that you want to make a poker deposit.

MasterCard is accepted at some sites, and Amex to a lesser extent. Again, you will be making international purchases with these cards where they are accepted.

The biggest advantage to this US poker deposit method is speed. When your deposit gets accepted the cash will be available right away for you to hit the games with. If you do not have either brand, then pre-paid cards can often do the trick. You’ll need to get in touch with your poker site before you buy a card. They will tell you which brands are currently working.

My recommendation for Visa Card holders is – no site has a better track record of accepting US deposits than the US part of the trusted global Bodog brand.

Easy US Poker Deposit Methods #2 – Western Union’s ‘Rapid Pay’

This method involves a little more effort upfront, though it has the advantage of being a very reliable way of getting your deposited.

Your first step is to speak to your poker site’s cashier staff on the phone. They will give you a tracking number and recipient name. You then find your nearest Western Union branch office (every city has at least one), take your cash to them and have it wired. Your poker site will reconcile, and you’ll have the cash ready to play in a couple of hours.

There are fees associated with this type of service, you’ll generally pay between $8 and $20 depending on how much you want to transfer. Some sites (Bovada for sure) will refund those fees if you deposit $300 or more first time.

Apart from the fact that this is a very reliable deposit method, I like the fact that you can withdraw your winnings with Rapid Pay. There is no faster way of getting to your cash. The only alternative method is currently a paper check, which takes a couple of weeks to get to you and then has to clear through your bank. Carbon Poker accept this one (though you should try your credit card there first)

Other US Deposit Methods

deposit options articleMoney Gram provide a similar cash transfer service to Western Union and are worth considering if you have a branch nearby. There is no withdrawal route with MoneyGram at present. BetOnline still accept eChecks, which were once the most popular method of depositing from the US. Due to mis-use you will have to wait to use these funds, which makes this one less than ideal.

Some innovative methods come and go, including pre-paid phone cards. At the moment there are no reliable alternatives to the methods covered above. I’ll keep my eyes open and let you know right here when anything comes up.

Bovada are the easiest site for US deposits at the moment. If you get stuck then their friendly cashier staff go that extra mile to help you get your money onboard. Check out for the latest deals!
